The GPS and I got a little turned around out in the multi-million
dollar estates out there. The pavement turned to dirt, then the dirt
was covered with snow, and the snow was either so packed down that it
was slippery, or it was churned up by construction trucks with chains,
so the bike kept slipping off the ice and down into the mush churned
up by the trucks. I finally had to give up and walk. Here I'm at the
top of a hill, and in the distance, the pavement recommences. It
turned out to be West Tano road, and I was back on track. My mistake
seemed to be taking Calle de Paisano, which the GPS told me to take a
left on, but which ended up being a dead end road. I must have
mistakenly clicked on a waypoint up there when I set the route up on
the computer. As the snow grew deeper around me, I began to think I
ought to have a spare set of batteries for the GPS with me. I kept
thinking I was going to crest a hill and find myself at the Rio
Grande, miles from where I meant to be. That's the point where I would
usually give up and turn around, but the GPS kept showing that I
wasn't too far off, so I kept heading toward my route, and it worked
