Happy mothers' day, happy spring festival day
But unfortunately a real sad occupation anniversary...
Friday the 12th
Azzam came back from his trip..
All of us were happy, we were very curious about what he brought back
with him.
conference that he came back from, most of them were interesting
where did it come from... Iran? India? Pakistan? If there were small
cooper cups or wood boxes, but if it was made of carved wood it would
be made in Africa; Ghana maybe... and if it was made of ceramic, it
would be from China!
countries, small Sri Lanka handmade key holders, small Egyptian
handmade rugs with Sahara and camels on them, some other small
colorful pieces of carpet from turkey.
I felt that the entire world is in front of me! It's like the pleasure
of receiving a world wide post package!
My husband brought another surprise from his other visit to Australia,
a kangaroo toy with her small son hiding in her pocket, and another
toy of a Koala staring like a Dumb!
I rally felt like if I had a fast trip around the world without the
need to spend hours traveling in air planes and airports.

His brother's wife called to invite us to lunch, it was Friday - the
weekend holyday, and we didn't meet from a while...
We were speaking and laughing during lunch, but I couldn't stop the
images to come back from my memory...
We asked each other: "do you remember the days of war?"
We came to your house running away from the American bombing to the
airport, then the American forces came and surrounded your area too
and we couldn't make it back home!
Everyone was laughing... is it really a year now?? Who can believe
it?? It seems like yesterday...
Events are still living in our memory...
I was lost in my memories, and forgot about the feast and hosts...
Here, in this kitchen, where there only light source was the smelly
smoky gasoline lights, we used to shake and prepare dinner meals, and
lost between the sounds of American fighters and Iraqi resistance, we
tried our best to have a happy supper.
Near the kitchen, there is a small storing room full of food rations
and cars spare parts... it was our small shelter during the war...
I remember when we ran away from our home and came to AdDoora, and
when we discovered the next morning what a bad decision it was when
the Americans Attacked AdDoora.
At the early hours of Saturday we jumped from our beds terrified, and
rushed to the storing room to hide with the bags of food there... it
was a huge mess... with very loud noise that sounds like an Iraqi
wedding part, but this one was with guns and mortars and
helicopters... that was the first time we heard the noise of an
American helicopter in Baghdad... we were shaking and wondering what
the hell was going on...
Some hours later the storm stopped...
People went out to see what happened in the streets and came back with
different stories, but most of them said that American pulled out
their forces, and that streets are full of the dead bodies of the
Iraqi soldiers carrying their Kalashnikovs. That was the first sign
that let everyone know that Baghdad will fall soon

We entered the sitting room to drink "Chai" after we finishes our
lunch, I remembered the time we used to sleep in this room in the war
afternoons... kids on the floor, and me on the couch. In one of those
days a huge explosion happened and caused something like an earth
quake, that explosion destroyed the silence of that afternoon; I
raised my head and my eyes and Raed's stared at each other with panic,
but the stupid parrot hiding under the stairs yelled like a stupid
woman: "Haaaa? Shako Makooooo?" (What's going on?) !!! so everyone
started laughing in a very loud voice! In fact she repeats that
sentence all the day long but no one cares, but at that particular
moment... it was like a scene from a comedy show!

We stayed at their house until the day Baghdad fell, we heard a very
near explosion and the children went upstairs and came down screaming
and running: "Come and see! American tanks in the street" we went to
the roof shocked and frightened, there was really some American tanks
there! With American soldiers wearing helmets and glasses, and having
American flags on their uniforms.
Majid shouted: "Raed!! Look!! An American flag!!!"
Everything stopped at that moment,, disappointment with sorrow...
mixed together with a small happiness that no one wanted to announce
because it would sound like the pleasure of betrayers... happiness for
the end of the war, and the end of a dark era... but the feeling of
pain is much greater of that of joy..
Te market in front of us was full of people, and orders were to raise
their hands when they pass nearby an American tank...
It was such embarrassing and humiliating event...
American soldiers in their tanks and Iraqi civilians putting their
hands up in their way back home...
Those days were full of sadness and pain that I can still feel in my
heart till now
I wish I could forget all of these memories... as soon as possible,,,
