natural family

The Natural Family

The Sutherland Institute is promoting its draft resolution on the

"Natural Family: A Vision For Utah". On its face, it sounds like a

harmless, maybe even a good idea -- that is, until you read the

resolution.

"We envision a local culture that upholds the marriage of a woman to a

man and a man to a woman..."

Well anti-gay marriage, what else is new, Utah?

"[the culture] casts the home built on marriage as the source of true

political sovereignty and ordered liberty."

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I think this is saying that legal rights are

ascribed to those in traditional marriages and homes.

"We see our homes as open to a full quiver of children, the source of

family continuity and social growth. We envision young women growing

into wives, homemakers, and mothers, and we see young men growing into

husbands, homebuilders, and fathers."

A quiver of children? Is that like a pride of lions? Seriously, this

statement doesn't leave much room for diversity in personal pursuits.

Could a young woman become a doctor or found a company? Could a young

man be a stay at home dad? Could a couple choose not to reproduce?

This narrow little ideal of what boys and girls should grow into has a

familiar ring - didn't Hitler have a similar ideal?

"We look to a landscape of family homes, lawns, and gardens busy with

useful tasks and ringing with the laughter of many children."

Now this is getting creepy. They're coming to take me away, haha,

where life is beautiful all the time, and I'll be happy to see those

nice young men in their clean white coats . . . Time for your 2 p.m.

Valium Mrs. Smith, and Ritalin all around for the quiver of kiddies.

Yes, a Utopia it would be. Mormons have no objection to heavy drug use

as long as it's the prescription kind. I once heard Utah was number

one in Valium and Ritalin use by population size. Woo! We're number

one! Is that laughter I hear ringing?

The southern Utah town of Kanab has already adopted this idiotic

statement as a non-binding resolution. A wiser mayor of upscale Alpine

is quoted as saying, "Considering a 'natural family' resolution is not

what we are in the business of doing. It's not the role of government

to get into those issues. We're in the business of roads, sewer,

water, police and fire."

Just like the Eagle Forum, these Sutherland guys get attention because

they make noise. In order to combat this, we have to start making some

noise ourselves. I'm considering organizing a non-profit of our own.

I'm curious to find out what kind of support there might be for this
